Sikh Wedding Ceremony – Birmingham

Beautiful Sikh wedding photography at the Singh Sabha Gurudwara, Birmingham

I was recommended to Mukhnam & Manvir by a previous couple of mine, whose wedding I had shot a few years before. I love couples who have come recommended as they often share a similar nature to the couple who have recommend them, therefore I knew Mukhnam & Manvir’s Sikh wedding ceremony would be as spiritual & devotional as their friend’s wedding before them.

Theirs was a wedding full of soul, love & tradition. I have collected a few of my favourite images from their special day that I would like to share with you… enjoy!

Mukhnam is possibly the calmest most kindhearted brides that I have ever worked with. Her mother, father, brother, 3 sisters & grandparents also share the same warm, caring hearts as Mukhnam & by being around her family, I got to see just how see had become the amazing royal person that she is.

Both Mukhnam & Manvir’s respected families are all very devote to the Sikh Gurus & to the nām (God’s Holy Name). Throughout each moment of their wedding ceremony, the kirtan (hymns) sung by the family members, invoked a spiritual ambience that inspired & united both families.

After the Gurudwara ceremony we travelled to Muknam’s home, which is a quaint & peaceful farm cottage, close to a small river in Barton under Underwood. This cottage is lived in by Mukhnam & her sisters, where they enjoy growing organic fruit & vegetables. It is such a beautiful place to be. Here Manvir & his entourage were welcomed in good old Indian style for the doli ceremony. Mukhnam’s family, refused entry to Manvir unless he was able to answer certain personal questions about Mukhnam’s likes & dislikes. Ohhhh… how he got some of his answers so wrong – even I guessed a few right.

I would like to thank Mukhnam & her family for their loving hospitality towards my associate photographer, Ketan, & I. It was truly an honour to be a part of the celebrations & I can honestly say that the spiritual mood from that day has left me with some blessed memories.
